French! Le passé récent (have/has just)

I was pretty confused when I first encountered this sentence construction. It is not an official tense (as far as I know) and that means that there are no new suffixes to be learnt!

Je viens de finir mes devoirs et je me sens fatiguée.
'I have just finished my homework and I'm feeling tired.'

At first, I thought it meant 'I'm going to finish my homework...' – if this is how you perceive the sentence, the explanation for that is the fact that it resembles to futur proche ('Je vais finir mes devoirs'). You just need to get used to it.

Nous venons de rentrer de l'école.
'We have just returned from the school.'

'Venir' means 'to come'. So as to elucidate how this 'magic formula' was created, I told myself: 'Je viens de finir... Ok, venir is 'to come'; so I 'come from' finishing something – that means that it has just happened.'
