My second book from Cathy Glass. I must say that the first one, named Cut, was better. I know that she cannot make it more dynamic by making up plot twists since she recounts true stories of children in foster care she met but the first half of the book was a bit boring and, conversely, the other half was too fast-moving. The story was finished so quickly. No wonder she had to add a secondary plot– Cathy and Lucy, because the story itself was fascinating (I don't particularly enjoy reading so I appreciate that Mrs. Glass can entertain me), albeit there wasn't much happening.
I also noticed repeating some phrases, I know, on 350 pages it's hard not to say something three or four times but it doesn't have to be almost in every chapter. Nevertheless, it's understandable; she's no writer, she just wants to share her stories.
The book is about a four-year-old girl, Alice, who was snatched from her grandparents' by her own mother who was said to be mentally ill and was addicted to drugs. After she was brought to the police station, she couldn't go back to her grandparents' because it was not considered safe for Alice so she was brought into care and was expected to live with her father, whom she had allegedly never seen but Cathy then found out she had. Alice still loved and wanted to go back to her grandparents and mom.
It's a good book and I've learned a lot about adoption, foster care and children. I recommend it!
